Organic Baby food making-Feeding Your Baby

Feeding our babies should not be complicated. It should not be a struggle. It should not be filled with processed, manmade foods. There should be no food dyes, no preservatives, no chemicals or scientific ingredients; instead there should be food, real food as Mother Nature provides for us.

Real food – fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds and grains should be the foods we turn to to feed our babies. And when we are first starting solids fruits and vegetables are all your baby needs. These are the perfect foods for our little babes as they begin the adventure of eating.

Starting solids is a time of questions, concerns and tons of advice being offered. The only thing to keep in mind is that during this time breast milk or formula is still your baby’s main source of nourishment and remains their main source of nourishment until their first birthday. Any food they eat in the beginning is “bonus” nutrition and if you think of it that way, there is no pressure, there are no worries about how much or how little your baby is eating, and instead there is fun, enjoyment and adventure as you tickle those tiny taste buds.

So, if you are one of those moms or dads questioning the norm, but are unsure how to go about feeding real food to your baby, look no further, it really couldn’t be easier and I am here to help.

Great first foods are bananas, apples, pears, sweet potato, squash, carrots, dried apricots and avocado.

And the preparation is easy, simply peel, steam until fork tender, puree in a blender or with a hand blender and voila you have made baby food!

There are some foods, bananas and avocado, which can simply be forked mashed. Add a bit of breast milk or formula to thin and it is ready. Although, I am partial to roasted bananas and my little man couldn’t get enough of those.

So, I hope I have convinced you to tickle your baby’s tiny taste buds with real food. I am excited to be a regular contributor to the Durham Organics blog and will be bringing you recipes for babies, toddlers and the whole family.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email and I will do my best to help.
